No-grade courses & hours
Award credit without numeric grades for labs, service, and electives—and optionally require logged hours.

What no-grade courses are
No-grade courses assign credit for educational activities that are not scored with a percentage or letter in the gradebook. Once a student is enrolled, they typically receive full credit automatically—unless the course is configured to track required hours toward completion.
Common use cases
- Music class (participation-based credit)
- Driver’s education
- Bible school / chapel programs
- Community service or life skills
- Science lab hours tied to a required total
Managing no-grade courses
Assignments → Manage No-Grade
Define title, category, credits, and whether hours are tracked. Assign a course category just like graded courses so transcripts and graduation math stay consistent.
Enrollments and rules
Assignments → No-Grade Enrollments
- Full credit on enroll unless the lab tracks hours toward a requirement.
- A student may not be enrolled in the same no-grade course more than once.
- If a program repeats each year (e.g. Bible School), create a separate no-grade course per grade level (Bible School – 9th, Bible School – 10th, …).
Recording hours
Record → Hours
- Students must be year-enrolled and enrolled in the no-grade course for the selected year.
- Use the mass entry grid to log hours for every enrolled student on a selected date.
- Click a student name to open their hour log and review all entries.
- Shortcuts: Ctrl/Cmd-K to change course, Enter/arrows between fields, Ctrl-Enter to save, Escape to leave a student log.
Where they appear on reports
- Report card: no-grade courses generally do not appear as graded subjects. When hours are tracked, you can show them via report settings: “Show No-Grade Courses with Tracked Time.”
- Transcript & permanent record: no-grade credit appears so total credits and categories stay accurate.
