Courses & gradebook structure
Build graded courses with units, credits, categories, auto-enroll, and weighted unit test patterns.

Course → unit → test model
Graded work uses a three-level structure:
- Course — subject for a grade level (e.g. Algebra II), with total credits and a category.
- Unit — a portion of the course that earns part of the credit and uses a test pattern. Unit averages become the subject scores that feed report cards.
- Tests — individual scores under pattern groups (quizzes, exams, projects, …). Any number of tests can exist in a group.
Managing courses
Assignments → Manage Courses
When creating or editing a course you set:

Units and credit
Each unit has a title, credit value, and an assigned unit test pattern. Units are sortable. You can add one unit at a time or use Add many for bulk creation.
Unit grades only appear on the report card after the unit is locked from the grade entry screen.
Unit test patterns

Patterns define groups of tests with weights. Any unit from any course may use any pattern. You do not need a score in every group—only recorded groups participate in the average.
Example
Quiz (Weight: 60) Final Exam (Weight: 40)
Student earns Quiz A 80%, Quiz B 90%, Final Exam 75%:
Quiz average = (80 + 90) / 2 = 85 Unit grade = (85 × 0.6) + (75 × 0.4) = 81%
- Use Generate Defaults if you have no patterns yet.
- You can edit patterns later; changes do not rewrite closed units or previously reported grades.
- On the unit grid, Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+1…9 adds a test for the Nth pattern group.
Course enrollments
Assignments → Course Enrollments
- Select a student already enrolled in the school year, then enroll them in courses.
- Students may enroll in courses across grade levels when that matches your program.
- Units already completed in a previous year cannot be retaken on the same course definition—plan multi-year sequences carefully.
Auto-enroll
Courses can enable Auto-Enroll so roster setup is simpler when most students in a year should take the same course. Use manual enrollments when schedules differ widely by student.
Archived courses
Archive courses you no longer offer so they drop out of day-to-day pickers while remaining available for historical records.
